Bangkok Hospital’s senior director of the Bangkok Orthopedic Center was appointed as the first Asian surgeon to be the president of the AO Foundation on June 30, 2014
Dr. Suthorn Bavonratanavech, Senior Director of the Bangkok Orthopedic Center of Bangkok Hospital, is a well-known orthopedic trauma surgeon who has been on the leading edge of advanced treatment for fracture for more than 30 years.
As the new 13th president he will lead the AO foundation, a nonprofit organization, to pursue their goals of improving the care of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and their recovery through research, development, education and quality assurance in the principles, practice, and outcomes of fracture treatment. AO regularly holds courses worldwide for Orthopedic Surgeons and other health professionals. These include hands on experience of using the latest implants, as well as lectures from expert surgeons and discussions. While working with the AO Foundation, Dr. Suthorn was the first surgeon in Thailand to organize a course curriculum in trauma and musculoskeletal surgical techniques for the new generation of Thai surgeons.
AO Foundation has certified Bangkok Health Research Center (BHRC) of Bangkok Hospital Group as an AO Foundation Clinical Study Center (AOCSC)
As a level one AOCSC, the BHRC is qualified to conduct prospective randomized clinical studies, build capacity of staff in clinical studies and can be a principal coordinating investigator for orthopedic and trauma research studies. Through the global network, the BHRC assist in meeting the challenges of different culture, languages and country specific and local regulations thus helping to make progress in multinational clinical studies by ensuring a high standard performance of orthopedic and trauma studies.
