Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS), a network of private hospitals of international standards, and TMBThanachart, or TTB, have joined forces to underscore their leadership in both organizations’ commitment to conduct business in a sustainable development manner. This includes supporting the development of Bangkok International Hospital (BIH) to meet the LEED Healthcare Gold standard, which is environmentally friendly. BDMS has received green loan support worth 1,000 million baht from TTB, becoming the first hospital in Thailand eligible for such a loan.
Dr. Poramaporn Prasarttong-Osoth, Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) or BDMS said “the company operates a comprehensive range of healthcare services both domestically and internationally, with a vision to be a leader in medical services and healthcare excellence that meets international standards. The company is also committed to conducting its business responsibly towards society, communities, and the environment.”
“The green loan we received from TMBThanachart this time will be used to develop infrastructure and management systems to accommodate the service users of Bangkok International Hospital (BIH) located on an area of more than 38,500 square meters with a capacity of 172 beds. It is managed as a Green Hospital under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles, such as using solar panels to reduce energy consumption and preserve the environment, creating green areas, including rooftop gardens and visible gardens from patient rooms for a relaxing atmosphere. It also operates as a Smart Hospital that leverages technology for in-hospital services, such as In-Room Automation systems controlling lighting, temperature, and room amenities through an iPad, for instance.”
Previously, the hospitals under BDMS that received Green Hospital assessment according to The LEED 2009 For Healthcare standards of the United States, a globally recognized environmental-friendly building assessment developed by U.S Green Building Council (USGBC), include:
Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai (LEED Certified the first in ASEAN in 2016), Bangkok Hospital Chiang Rai (LEED Gold the first in ASEAN in 2021), and most recently, in April 2022, Bangkok International
Hospital was assessed under the LEED 2009 for Healthcare – New Construction at the Gold level, which sets specific criteria for healthcare facilities aiming to conduct business following sustainable development directions for both patient health and environmental quality.

The bank plays a proactive role in supporting funding for customers looking to develop sustainable business models that benefit customers, society, and the environment.
Since 2021, TMBThanachart has expanded its green loan offerings to 7 green business categories, including renewable energy, efficient energy use, sustainable water and wastewater management, pollution prevention and waste management, clean transportation, sustainable natural resources management, and one of them is green building loans, which provide new alternatives for green businesses seeking funding and help underline the bank’s commitment to promoting sustainability.
This year, the bank has supported a green loan in the green building category to BDMS with a loan amount of 1,000 million baht to develop the environmentally friendly LEED Healthcare standard Gold level building of Bangkok International Hospital (BIH), making it the first hospital in Thailand qualified for such a loan. This support to BDMS this time is in collaboration with and supported by International Finance Corporation (IFC), and it reinforces TMBThanachart’s mission to prioritize and steadfastly support environmentally sustainable business development in line with sustainable banking guidelines, with the bank ready to be a partner in driving business success and sustainable growth.
