BASEM Team of Bangkok Hospital Headquarters flew over to Cambodia performing ACL Surgery for the national football player, Chan Vathanaka (Boeung Ket Football Club).

Bangkok Academy of Sports and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) at Bangkok Hospital Headquarters as one of FIFA Medical Centers of Excellence has demonstrated expertise in advanced surgery while flying over from Thailand to Cambodia to perform an arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery on Chan Vathanaka, the national football player (Boeung Ket Football Club) who suffered from anterior cruciate ligament injuries from previous matches.

On Saturday, 5th February 2022, GP. CAPT. DR. NIWAT INTARAWICHIAN, Director of Royal Phnom Penh Hospital held a press conference “Arthroscopic ACL Surgery on Chan Vathanaka, the national football player of Cambodia”. The surgery was conducted and led by Cdr. Dr. Pornthep Mamanee, the director of BASEM, Bangkok Hospital Headquarters. Due to the advancements in minimally invasive surgery and expertise adhering to international standard, an arthroscopic ACL surgery was successfully performed in which the highest level of safety had been attained. With smaller incisions, the surgery causes less pain with a faster recovery while surgical outcome is highly satisfying. However, a continuous rehabilitation program is further required which takes approximately 6 months to yield a full recovery and get fit again for the next matches.

The Bangkok Hospital BASEM Team wishes Chan Vathanaka to score many more goals for his country in the future.
