Cordyceps or Cordyceps, classified as a Chinese herb that has many properties in health care and has been widely used in traditional medicine prescriptions in China for many thousands of years.
Dr. Tanupol Virunhagarun, Chief Operating Officer and Director of BDMAS Wellness Clinic and an expert in Preventive and Regenerative Medicine, honored to provide information that “The best quality Cordyceps is the Cordyceps Sinensis species, a rare and expensive herb found in high-altitude areas along mountains and requires very cold and wet weather conditions, specific only to those regions, and also requires an elevation of about 10,000 – 12,000 feet above sea level, making it a rare and valuable find. The areas where Cordyceps is found include the Himalayan regions of China, Tibet, and specifically Bhutan, where Cordyceps of the best quality is found.”
The appearance of Cordyceps is distinguished by 2 parts: the part that is a caterpillar, in summer, consumes spores that fall on the ground. As winter arrives, these caterpillars escape the cold by burrowing underground, which is warmer. During this time, when the caterpillar fights the cold and weakens, the spore starts to grow by absorbing nutrients and minerals from the caterpillar and spreads its filaments throughout the caterpillar, until the caterpillar weakens over time at which the spore takes control of its brain, causing it to crawl up to the soil surface to receive sunlight in summer, resulting in the caterpillar’s death and the spore successfully taking over the caterpillar’s body, turning into the mushroom. The second part looks like strings sprouting from the caterpillar, which is a type of mushroom known as the most expensive in the world. When the spore starts to grow, it will absorb minerals in the caterpillar by using the mushroom as a habitat. The Chinese call this herb “Winter worm, summer grass”.
Currently, Cordyceps is briefly called “Cordyceps” or in Thai “Yaa Norn”. Hence, the question whether Cordyceps is a plant or an animal.. it would have to be answered as both plant and animal, but is categorized as a “herb”. “Cordyceps” has been registered as a medicine since 1964, with properties to stimulate the immune system, help stimulate the activity of white blood cells, natural killer cells, which are effective in killing viruses and cancer cells, improves immunity, nourishes kidney function, helps reduce blood sugar levels, increases oxygen in blood circulation, makes one feel invigorated, not tired, fights fatigue, and improves the efficiency of body and exercise, helps fight free radicals and enhance sexual performance, hence the name “The Himalayan Viagra”. Its consumption methods include fresh, boiled, or ground into powder and then encapsulated. Currently, due to high demand, it is being cultivated, but the efficacy is still not equal to naturally grown Cordyceps.
With many benefits of Cordyceps, Bangkok Hospital has developed its own formula, leading to the production of Royal Cordyceps Mix C, which contains Cordyceps (from Bhutan) mixed with vitamin C to help increase absorption efficiency, thereby making body’s functioning more effective. Comes in capsule form, easy to take, one capsule before breakfast, suitable for both men and women, especially working adults.
The doctor added, “Although Cordyceps sounds like it has many benefits, choosing the right one to consume is not easy. Apart from the difficulty to identify which type of Cordyceps it is, it is also necessary to check in the laboratory to see how much active substance each type has because some species are expensive but have very little active substance, or some brands claim to have great properties but are contaminated with heavy metal toxins. Therefore, choosing Cordyceps to consume should consult a specialist doctor or choose medical-grade Cordyceps that has been examined would be the best.”
Health, enhances immunity, and nourishes the body to be vigorous.
