The eyes are the organs that provide vision and are one of the most important ways we communicate with one another. It provides a connection between the outside world and our body. The eyes are sensitive, and without proper care and protection complications may occur that could lead to loss of eye sight. Fortunately, advances in technology and treatment for vision disorders have come a long way in treating eye conditions.
At the Bangkok Eye Center we provide the complete range of examination, treatment and surgical options utilizing such state-of- the-art technologies as the digital retinal camera, a specialized low-power microscope that photographs the interior surface of the eye, and minimally invasive endoscopic retinal detachment repair and glaucoma repair.
Services include comprehensive vision tests to evaluate eyesight; refractive eye surgery to eliminate the need for corrective lenses; visual field testing and intraocular pressure measurement to detect glaucoma; and advanced treatments for a range of conditions including diabetic eye diseases, glaucoma and cataracts.
The center includes five specialized clinics:
- Cornea Clinic
- Oculoplastic Clinic
- Mobile Eye Clinic
- Glaucoma Clinic
- Lasik Clinic
Treatments at the Eye Center
Ophthalmic surgical procedures are categorized into two subdivisions:
- Oculoplastics encompasses a range of reconstructive surgical procedures of the eye including droopy and baggy eyelids, ingrown eyelashes, tear drainage system dysfunctions, and eye-socket (orbit) fractures and complications.
- Refractive Eye Surgery involves correcting mild-to- moderate eyesight problems and can reduce or cure common vision disorders such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Lasik is one method of refractive surgery to improve vision, in which a laser is used to reshape the cornea and a precision surgical instrument with an oscillation blade is used to create a corneal flap. Most patients who undergo the Lasik procedure no longer need corrective glasses or contact lenses.
- Advanced Cataract Extraction Surgery: A cataract is a painless, cloudy area in the lens of the eye often experienced by the elderly. Utilizing a procedure called phacoemulsification, cataracts are broken up by sound waves and artificial lenses are implanted to improve the eye’s refractive power.
