Revolutionizing Patient Registration: Agnos Health and Bangkok Hospital Introduce AI-Driven Smart Management System

Bangkok Hospital Headquarters partnered with Agnos Health, a startup specializing in medical artificial intelligence, to develop another service: the Smart Patient Management system. This AI-powered system enhances patient management and is now operational at the Health Design Center (HDC) of Bangkok Hospital headquarters, following the successful implementation of the Smart Registration system at the registration department.

Dr. Somrit Jantarapratin, Deputy CIO at Bangkok Hospital Group 1, said, “By implementing the Smart Patient Management system at HDC, we aimed to address high-congestion areas or complex processes causing conflicts between doctors, nurses, and patients. The AI system significantly reduces unnecessary communication between teams, informing patients about their waiting time, and next steps, and reducing repetitive questions. This lessens conflicts due to improved information flow. The results exceeded expectations, as the complexity of patient flow at the hospital was a significant challenge. Expanding its use will be straightforward if Agnos’s technology can handle this complexity.”

Dr. Kewalin Rangsinaporn, Assistant Director of Bangkok Hospital and Director of the Health Design Center, added, “HDC is Bangkok Hospital’s health check-up department, serving 200-300 patients daily. Managing queues is challenging due to the varied check-up packages, procedures, and timing for each patient. Previously, staff managed queues, which led to fragmented oversight. Using Agnos’s AI-powered patient management system, patient queues are now evenly distributed across the department, making the process smoother than manual management.”

Key features of the Smart Patient Management system leveraging AI technology include:

  • Real-time Status Updates: Patients can check their queue status and receive notifications via Line, the website, or mobile applications. This syncs with TV screen updates in the department, allowing patients to know their status without asking staff, and reducing overcrowding in waiting areas.
  • Electronic Forms (E-Form) and AI-Recommended Check-Up Packages: Patients can complete E-forms before arriving at the hospital, reducing registration wait times. The system also assesses health risks to recommend suitable check-up packages for each patient.
  • AI Next Exam Recommendations: The AI system acts as a co-pilot, processing patients’ check-up lists, waiting times, appointments, and clinical priorities to recommend the optimal examination order, maximizing patient distribution and minimizing wait times.
  • Overall Patient Flow Management: Nurses can monitor and manage patient queues across the department, ensuring patients are not waiting too long and reallocating them to other exams if necessary.
  • Operation Management: The system tracks service statuses and manages staff to enhance service efficiency. AI can recommend repurposing multi-purpose rooms to reduce congestion in certain areas.

The Smart Patient Management system has reduced patient wait times by up to 50% and alleviated staff workload across various tasks, allowing them more time to care for patients. Both healthcare providers and patients benefit from improved service efficiency and satisfaction.

Ms. Suthanut Hangkaew, Head of the Department, and Ms.Kulthida Waisan, a nurse at the Health Design Center, said, “Previously, manual queue distribution has been replaced by the Agnos system, allowing patients to view their queues on mobile devices. The system significantly reduces work burdens, improves workflow, and enhances patient care. Patient feedback has been positive, appreciating the convenience of checking their status without asking staff.”

Dr. Paphonwit Chaiwatanodom, CEO of Agnos Health, concluded, “The Smart Patient Management system, featuring AI Co-pilot technology, automates patient management processes, reducing manual steps and enhancing patient care at leading private hospitals in Thailand. This technology can be adapted for both public and private healthcare facilities, managing outpatient departments and digitizing paper forms. The system can be customized to fit specific service needs, improving overall patient satisfaction.”
